People across the world have been logging onto the new look website01 March 2009 - How to give to charity without giving more
Did you know that there's an easy way for many to give to their favourite charities at no extra cost?Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), a charity which works with individuals, companies and charities to increase charitable giving, has found that half of all UK higher rate tax payers are unaware that they can claim tax relief on charitable donations on their self assessment tax return. All higher rate tax payers are eleigible to receive the difference between 20 (basic) and 40 (higher) percent tax on their charitable donations made throughout the tax year.
Through the self assessment tax return, this relief can then be donated back to charity. There is even better news in that this amount is Gift Aided by the government. All of this means that if a higher rate tax payer donates £100 to a charity, the charity could receive £160.20 - at no extra cost to the donor. It's definitely something to keep in mind for this year's self-assessment.
A CAF Charity Account or Trust can help you manage your donations to charity and also provides regular statements to enable you to easily claim any tax relief on charitable giving.
Visit www.cafonline.org for more information about these accounts, and www.hmrc.gov.uk for more information on tax relief.
